How DAF giving works

The Open Gift Standard

  • Open to anyone who walks up — Any mobility or medical device, anyone's, any hour. Loaners first-come with a sign-out sheet.
  • Findable: 3:00 & G, mat-surfaced lot · always open
  • Marked with the standard placard on the playa
  • Separate from camp-only space — The hub is a standalone service lot separate from camp living space.
  • Verified annually with photo evidence

The story

For someone whose legs are a battery, a dead charge isn't an inconvenience — it's the end of their day, or their week. Rolling Access is a solar array and battery bank dedicated to mobility devices: wheelchairs, scooters, CPAP batteries, and powered medical equipment. We run charging lockers around the clock, a repair bench with common spares, and three loaner scooters for people whose own equipment fails outright. The hub sits on a hard-packed, mat-surfaced lot that a chair can actually cross.

Dust, weather & logistics

Charging medical equipment means uptime is non-negotiable: the array is oversized 2x against demand and the battery bank holds a full day's reserve. All wiring is done and inspected by our two licensed electricians; every locker circuit is independently fused.
